Are video games sexist?

Hey, check it out! Finally! It’s a real look at the issue the way us real gamers see it. Backed up with real research that us real gamers can agree on. No, that’s not what the above video is. The above video is a catchy rebuttal, I considered leaving it as the featured video on this post but, really, it doesn’t need anymore exposure than it already has. Here’s the video that came out yesterday to my chagrin and yes, it seems to be yet another voice in the echo chamber of confirmation bias surrounding the GamerGate “movement”.

I guess it would be unfair to immediately dismiss the video as pandering bullshit made by a Conservative think tank attempting to reach a market of those insular young men who have recently shown how caustic and aggressive they can be in response to Feminist writers and video makers. It’d be so unfair to point out how well known the US Conservative Party is for their progressive views on sexism and women’s rights.

It’d be terribly unfair to categorise the woman in the video, Christina Hoff Sommers, as someone with as strong a bias in the direction against Feminism and as checkered history of ‘facts’ as any of your “Sarkeesians”. Unfair, perhaps, to assume that she wont be the target of death threats and harassment, despite having vocalised some pretty controversial views on YouTube.

I imagine it’d also be unfair to hold this video to the same demanding standards as those in the Feminist Frequency series, on account of how she agrees with everything we believe, even if she does make some dubious points while doing so…

No, no… It wouldn’t be right to do that. It’d be unfair.
With that in mind, then, I must admit to being quite unfair.

Oh well.
